About Checkoff Colorado
Based on the notion that “a rising tide lifts all boats,” in 2003 the charitable organizations eligible for voluntary contributions on the Colorado state income tax form decided to take the bold step of banding together because their voices would be louder if spoken in unison.
That became the country’s first collaborative, statewide public awareness campaign designed to raise awareness about check-off giving. Today, other states view Checkoff Colorado as a model program. Checkoff California kicks off in 2007 and Georgia launched a similar campaign in 2010.
Checkoff Colorado targets CPAs, financial planners, tax preparers, and taxpayers themselves. The goals are simple -- to increase the number of taxpayers making donations and the total amount of contributions each year.
More than thirty years ago, Colorado became the first state in the country to allow a taxpayer to "check-off" a voluntary contribution to a state program. Now there are hundreds of check-off programs in nearly every state in the country.
Funds can be directed to any or all of the organizations. Its simple. Just remember to Checkoff Colorado when you file your Colorado State Income Tax.
